SYSTEM PICK #1: Under 4.5 first 5 innings Mariners-Twins (@ -130 odds)

 

I shared this pick this morning and the vast majority of sportsbooks had a line lying between -130 and -140 in American format, which equates to a 1.71 to 1.77 range in decimal format.

This betting pick is mainly due to my statistical model whose fair lines are -152 on the under and +152 on the over. In more practical terms, this means we are getting good odds, but I would not take this bet at odds that are -150 or weaker, like -155 or -160.

Luis Castillo will take the mound for Seattle. He presents super solid numbers this year, which are very similar to last year’s. However, I have to admit that I’m worried by the fact that he has allowed exactly two homeruns in five of his past six starts.

On the other side, the Twins will counter with Kenta Maeda. He didn’t have a good start to his 2023 campaign, but he has fared much better since returning from the injured list on June 23rd. Indeed, since then he has allowed 8 earned runs in 26 1/3 innings, which translates into a great 2.73 ERA.

I do see a tight low-scoring game, especially in the first half of the game, so give me the first five innings under please!
