SYSTEM PICK #1: Atlanta Braves team total over 5.5 runs (@ -115 odds, vs New York Yankees)
All right, let’s get back to baseball business! The first pick that I like for Tuesday August 15 is the Atlanta Braves team total to go over 5.5 runs. If you take a look at their past 13 games, they have put at least six runs on the board 11 times. That means that if you had placed that bet every single time, you would have obtained an awesome 11-2 record.
The icing on the cake is the fact that they are facing Luis Severino. He holds some of the worst pitching numbers in the Big Leagues this year: an ugly 8.06 ERA, along with a jaw-dropping 1.88 WHIP statistic. Things could not be worse for him.
He is hanging on to a rotation spot only because of injuries to Carlos Rodon and Nelson Cortes. Severino has allowed at least three runs in 6 of his past 7 outings. Now facing the best offense in MLB on the road, let’s wish him good luck!
It’s also worth noting that Severino has been even worse on the road, as evidenced by his 0-5 record and 9.89 ERA as the visiting team.
SYSTEM PICK #2: David Peterson over 4.5 strikeouts (@ -105 odds, vs Pittsburgh Pirates)
MLB pick number two for August 15 is David Peterson from the New York Mets to record over 4.5 strikeouts against the Pirates. Boy, I love this play! I suspect that the line is low because he has failed to reach 5+ punchouts in a game in 7 of his past 8 appearances, but he has been mostly working out of the bullpen.
Peterson has started 13 games during the 2023 campaign. If you had placed a bet on over 4.5 strikeouts in each of those outings, you would have racked up a 10-3 record.
What makes this bet even more enticing is the fact he is facing a pretty weak offense. Indeed, the Pirates have scored the 7th fewest runs in the league. Moreover, Pittsburgh batters have struck out 1058 times this year, which makes them the team with the 11th-most strikeouts in the Big Leagues.
In Peterson’s last start against the Cubs, he managed to get 5 strikeouts despite staying on the mound for less than four innings. He is pretty likely to get a longer start, so give me the over here!
