Free MLB Picks Wednesday August 2, 2023

We are enjoying a good start to our betting week together, aren’t we? On Monday, we got 1 win and 1 push. Yesterday, my free play was Pittsburgh who defeated the Tigers 4-to-1. The premium picks are also doing a great job this week via a 5-2 record so far.

SYSTEM PICK #1: Over 6.5 first 5 innings Padres-Rockies (@ -101 odds)

In my humble opinion, the best MLB bet for Wednesday August 2nd is over 6.5 runs in the first five innings of the Padres versus Rockies NL West division meeting!

The projected starters are Joe Musgrove and Kyle Freeland. Musgrove is a stud, so that makes this bet a little scary. After showing some rust early in the season, he has been dominant over his last 12 appearances via an incredible 1.84 ERA.

That being said, he has not had much success against the Rockies. He has not faced them this year, but in 2022 he allowed 11 runs in 15 2/3 innings, including 5 runs in 5 innings at Coors Field. The year before, he did great against Colorado, but none of them occurred on the road.

Kyle Freeland recently came back from the injured list by allowing five runs in four innings against the lowly Oakland A’s. That is not reassuring for Rockies fans, but that's music to my ears given I took the over the first half of Wednesday’s game.

Freeland has faced the Padres on a couple of occasions this year. In total, he has squandered just a single run in 11 innings, which is quite impressive! Am I the only feeling this is not going to last, and San Diego will finally solve him? Last year, Freeland gave up 19 earned runs in a little bit over 25 innings against the Padres. That’s closer to the outcome I’m expecting for August 2nd!
