Free MLB Picks Wednesday September 6, 2023

We won both free picks yesterday, as well as both premium picks at mjpicks.com (including another winner in the WNBA, a league where we have posted a 28-6 record lately)!

Over the past 4+ weeks, the betting picks across all sports have generated an astounding 75-44-1 record (a corresponding profit of +22.34 units by risking just one unit per wager)!

SYSTEM PICK #1: New York Yankees (@ -161 odds, vs Detroit Tigers)

The revenge factor comes into play here. Matt Manning tossed six scoreless innings against the Yankees last Thursday, while Clarke Schmidt yielded 3 runs in 4 2/3 innings.

I am aware that Manning has been on a roll lately with just one earned run in 23 2/3 innings. But in his prior three starts, he gave up 17 earned runs in 16 2/3 innings. I truly believe he will a wall at Yankee Stadium today.

Schmidt has allowed three runs or fewer in 18 of his past 19 outings (his only blemish occurring in Atlanta, a very tough environment). He has improved a lot after a difficult start to his 2023 campaign. He holds a 3.82 ERA over his past 19 starts.

The Yankees are 7-1 lately, including an impressive three-game sweep in Houston. They have owned the Tigers in the past two seasons, as evidenced by their 9-2 record against that foe.

SYSTEM PICK #2: Miami Marlins (@ +130 odds, vs Los Angeles Dodgers)

Lance Lynn takes the mound for L.A. He leads the league with 37 homeruns allowed this season. He was having an ugly season with the White Sox before getting traded to the Dodgers. He got off to a nice start with his new team, but seems to be back to his old bad habits after squandering 10 hits to the Red Sox and 7 hits to the Braves.

The Dodgers’ energy level could be down after a much-anticipated series against Atlanta. Squaring off with the Marlins on the road is not nearly as exciting for them.

Meanwhile, Miami is ultra-motivated since they are in the thick of the playoff race. Edward Cabrera will likely be the primary pitcher after J.T. Chargois. I like Cabrera’s high strikeout rate: 93 punchouts in 77 innings. He is capable of posting strong performances.

SYSTEM PICK #3: San Diego Padres (@ +103 odds, vs Philaelphia Phillies)

Zack Wheeler is enjoying another superb season, but is he showing signs of fatigue? He has allowed 3 or 4 runs in three of his past five outings. He has pitched at least six innings in each of those five most recent starts, so his arm could feel weaker today.

Michael Wacha’s numbers are staggering: he has allowed either 0, 1 or 2 runs in 13 of 14 starts. He owns one of the league’s best ERA at 2.85. Wacha missed six weeks due to a shoulder injury, but he picked up where he left off.
